Waste management / landfill gas processing

Together with a company operating landfill sites in the UK, we have prepared a pilot project for landfill gas utilisation using a compact ACTROM unit. At a location where methane (CH₄) from the landfill was previously released into the atmosphere in an environmentally harmful manner, we have installed a new ACTROM technology module that purifies, separates and compresses the gas to 250 bar. The result is usable energy gas for a cogeneration unit and for fuelling material handling equipment.
Waste is delivered to the landfill, which contains an organic component that produces methane during decomposition, which is released into the atmosphere and pollutes the environment. On the pipe where CH₄ (methane) is released into the atmosphere, we have installed our new module – a reduced-scale module 2 and 3 of ACTROM technology. The gas is thereby purified, separated and compressed into pressure vessels at 250 bar.
Gas treated in this way can be:
The main concept of this project is that instead of releasing methane into the atmosphere in an environmentally harmful manner, it is used as an energy source. An emissions problem becomes a local energy source.
For the same company, we will be supplying another ACTROM unit, this time to a different landfill in Ardleigh. This unit, which has a larger capacity (300 m³ of landfill gas per hour), is currently ready in storage in Vlkoš.
This is a unit that will capture landfill gas. This gas will subsequently be purified and compressed to 250 bar. The resulting product will be hydrogen and synthetic CNG, which will be consumed directly on site in a cogeneration unit.
Both projects focus on decarbonisation and circular energy. Waste is returned to the process in a usable quality and with useful properties – instead of remaining merely an environmental burden.
