Why Connect to the Distribution Network?

Solar power plant produces the most energy during the day and in summer months. However, we can't always consume all produced energy.

Connection Benefits

Even if you plan a solar power plant primarily for own consumption, connection to the distribution network plays a key role in efficient utilization of produced energy.

Imagine, for example, a school that has minimal consumption during summer holidays, but solar panels on the roof produce maximum energy. Without connection to the distribution network, this energy would go to waste.

Thanks to connection, we can either sell it to the grid, or since July 2024 even share it with other facilities.

Electrical Energy Sharing

In practice, this means you can use surpluses from one building in another. A municipality can, for example, use energy produced on a school roof during holidays in the wastewater treatment plant, health center, or municipal office. This system significantly increases solar energy utilization efficiency.

Economic Aspect

It's important to know that electricity price has two components: power electricity (which you can produce with your own power plant) and distribution fees (which you always pay). When sharing energy between your own facilities, you only pay distribution fees.

Connection to the distribution network enables you to:

  • Sell energy surpluses to the grid
  • Share energy between other facilities and maximize entire system efficiency
  • Optimize your investment return

How Does Connection Work?

Connection Application

The entire process begins with preparation and submission of connection application to the relevant distributor according to your location - ČEZ, EG.D or Pražská energetika.

The good news is that we handle this communication completely for you, while you can focus on your work.

Specific Requirements for Larger Installations

For larger installations with capacity above 50 kW, a license from the Czech Energy Regulatory Office is needed.

It's similar to the difference between driving a car and a truck - higher capacity requires specific permits. We'll also completely handle this permit for you.

Technical Solution

Every solar power plant needs to meet certain technical requirements for grid connection. It's similar to connecting a new house to utility networks - you need to prepare a consumption point and install proper measuring equipment.

Special Preparation for Energy Sharing

In this case, a special four-quadrant meter with continuous measurement needs to be installed. Preparation of the consumption point for this type of connection represents an investment of approximately 20-30 thousand crowns, but the meter itself is provided free of charge.

Intelligent Energy Sharing Control

Energy sharing control is managed by the Electrical Data Center (www.edc-cr.cz).

This system automatically collects data about electricity production and consumption and manages flow according to your set priorities. For example, you can determine that surpluses should be preferentially sent to facilities with highest consumption. The system works automatically and doesn't require your active involvement.
